Workshop Description

According to BoardSource, “the partnership between the board and the executive leader is critically important to the success of an organization.”  Building – and managing – this partnership is easier said than done and often falls on the executive director's shoulders. We're here to help! In this workshop, we will look at ways you can effectively “manage up” to build stronger board relationships, engage each member, and move your board toward excellence. Participants will leave with a strong understanding of board management best practices and a plan to work more effectively with board members, leveraging key talent for maximum impact.

Intended Audience: Nonprofit Executive Directors and Key Staff


  • Gain strategies to improve your recruiting and on-boarding process to set the expectation for a high performing board
  • Take away templates for creating engagement plans and check-in’s to make sure performance is on track
  • Learn how to implement best practices that will help each board member reach their full potential

CEN Events Cancellation Policy: Unfortunately, CEN is no longer able to accommodate cancellations within 72 hours of any event.  A registered attendee who has been billed or invoiced but is a “No Show” on the day of the event will still be billed for the event.  There are no exceptions to this policy, but substitutions are permitted at any time as long as the attendee is from the same organization.  Approved refunds – requested before the 72 hour cutoff – will be issued through the original form of payment.  Thank you!
